I found Mighty Ape and ordered the book that showed that cover. (And thank you so much for posting that picture of the REAL book otherwise, I would have thought the cover just never made it to print.) Ah HA! So an edition with the cover DID actually exist it was just a matter of finding an online book store in New Zealand and taking a chance.
